Back by popular demand, the Sashay barbershop quartet returns to the Old Art Building’s front lawn in Leland to kick off the holiday season with a caroling performance at 5:30 pm on Friday, December 10th. The event is free and open to the public.
The Old Art Building’s front lawn is covered with thousands of lights and many Christmas trees adorned with “Peace” ornaments decorated by community members. There is also plenty of room to socially distance as desired.
The Sashay Quartet is a local group of four women who are also members of the all-female Grand Traverse Show Chorus, an award-winning vocal ensemble and charitable organization that supports a music scholarship program and gives to several other local causes. The quartet’s mission follows that of Sweet Adelines International: Elevating women singers worldwide through education, performance, and competition in barbershop harmony and a cappella music. The quartet has performed together since 2005, and in 2020 led a crowd in singing seasonal favorites amongst the holiday decorations on the Old Art Building’s lawn.
Members of Sashay include Jill Steckley, tenor; Deb Densmore, lead; Lori Phillips, baritone; and Jill Watson, bass. Watson is also director of the Grand Traverse Show Chorus.
