Interlochen Event at The Garden Theater

The Contemporary Music Department puts on a showcase at The Garden.

The Garden Theater opened back up to the public a month ago after some big changes. Last December, it was purchased by the nonprofit group “Friends of the Garden Theater” with the mission to preserve the theater for the next 100 years. In June, The Garden underwent a hefty restoration project which included a brand new roof, a stage extension, and new ADA compliant bathrooms. The further goal of the Friends is to expand the programming dramatically at The Garden - more than just a movie house. To bring more arts and culture to Benzie County and allow the theater to be a community space for all. What better way to do that than to bring the Interlochen School of the Art to their stage?

Students from the Contemporary Music Department will put on a showcase on November 26th at 7:30 pm at The Garden Theater. The performance will be the Friday after Thanksgiving, a way of celebrating and being thankful for music and artists. Members from each of the Jazz, Popular Music, Music Production, and Singer/Songwriter programs will perform in the historic theater. This will kick off the first of live events to happen in the recently restored space. “The students at Interlochen are unbelievably talented and to be able to allow our local community members the opportunity to experience their gifts at The Garden is really special,” says new Executive Director of the Garden, Katie Jones.

Both The Garden Theater and Interlochen School of the Arts have long and rich histories in Northern Michigan. It is exciting to see the organizations join together for the betterment of the community and enjoyment of its members. “We are thrilled to bring students in jazz, popular music, songwriting, and music production to The Garden Theater,” says Chair of Contemporary Music, Courtney Kaiser-Sandler. “This will be the first time we have collectively put on a performance together and we are grateful for the invitation to perform in our local community”.

Tickets are $20 and on sale now. To purchase, please visit www.frankfortgardentheater.com. Note that masks are required for all patrons while inside the theater building.
