to Sunday, June 13, 2021
6:00 PM to 6:00 PM
The Leelanau Community Cultural Center at the Old Art Building will host its 9th annual Leland Air, a virtual art exhibition and sale featuring the work of more than 55 plein air painters from across Michigan. Artwork will be available to view and purchase online only at www.oldartbuilding.com.
The free virtual exhibit opens on Sunday, May 30, at 6 pm. Early bird tickets are available for $25 and offer the option to view and purchase paintings one hour earlier than the general public. The exhibit and sale will continue through Sunday, June 13, at 6 pm. Artists will donate forty percent of their sales to the Old Art Building.
Artists are given one day to paint en plein air from a location of their choice, and the show is available to view not long afterward. Prior to 2020, Leland Air required that artists paint from locations around the local area, but the exhibit and sale moved online during the pandemic and will remain virtual in 2021 as well. The virtual aspect of this year's exhibit allows painters to work from a much wider array of locations.
Prizes for Best of Show and People's Choice will be awarded. Best of show is determined by three judges, and the winner will be announced when the show opens. Judges are Richard Kooyman (last year's winner), Amanda Johnson (OAB Board Member), and Charlotte Smith (community member). People's Choice will be voted for online by the public and announced at end of show. The painting that wins Best of Show will be made into a high quality print that will be for sale throughout the year. The painting will also be used in the poster for the annual Art Leelanau Benefit and Art Exhibition in July.
