Instructors: Craig and Jillian Manning will team up to teach students ages 11-18 years about writing for a magazine, from crafting a pitch letter to writing an actual first draft.

Dates, times, and itinerary:

  • February 22 from 7-8 pm - Students will learn how to find an angle for their story, interview and research techniques, and article specs and format.  Assignment:  Choose the topic of your piece - select a local leader or person you look up to in the community - and start taking notes for the story.
  • March 1 from 7-8 pm - The instructors will take you on a deep dive into structuring your piece, using prose and quotes, developing voice, and pitching the story.  Assignment: Complete the interview and draft your piece.
  • March 8 from 7-8:30 pm - Broken up into 10-minute individual appointments for editorial feedback.
